Back to School! -- And SOUTH SUDAN changes the world!
Published Aug 17 2011 in CartoCraze Geography Blog by Deborah Newton
Many schools are back in session! Those of you who ordered our AFRICA and WORLD maps will want to make changes to your maps, adding the boundary line for the new country of SOUTH SUDAN. The capital of SOUTH SUDAN is Juba.
This new information, along with some interesting facts and activities, will soon be part of our ONLINE MAPPING EXTRAS.
SOUTH SUDAN broke away from the larger country of SUDAN, declaring its independence on July 9th, 2011. Soon after, it became the 193rd member state of the United Nations on July 14th. Two weeks later, on July 28th, it joined the African Union.
This new country, one of the poorest in the world, faces many challenges. Make it a classroom activity to follow its progress in the months to come. In the meantime, make sure you draw in the new boundary lines on your AFRICA and WORLD maps. The new boundary line is shown here on a detail of our map!
