Professor Earthworm's Geography Course

Good morning (or good afternoon) Students. Here I am again, Professor Earthworm!

This week our cartography project is extra fun and interesting! Many of us have heard about the giant tortoises that inhabit the Galapagos Islands. Many of us, as I was, might not be exactly sure where these volcanic islands are located, let alone the names of the many islands that are part of this group of islands! After making a hand drawn map like I did, you will be more knowledgeable about this natural wonderland.

This is an easy map to draw! Take a pencil and piece of paper. Start with the largest island in the group, Isabela. Then it’s easy to sketch the surrounding smaller islands. I drew and labeled 17 additional islands, including 2 in an inset.

These islands were formed by volcanoes erupting -- I enjoyed sketching in the many volcanoes on the islands.

1. Use your neatest printing when labeling the islands.
2. Don’t forget to draw a compass rose on your maps: I tried to make mine look like a turtle shell.
3. I had fun drawing a border around my map -- you can too!

Enjoy making your map! And if you can scan or copy your mp and send it to me (by email or regular mail), we’d love to post it in our Community Gallery!

By the way, I asked Regina to help me with this post, and she drew this awesome picture of the Galapagos Tortoise!

Until next week!

P.S.  What country are these islands part of?  You must have learned that, as I did, by now!
